I was a born storyteller
My first complete story was ‘The Haunted House’. I was eight. I still have the manuscript somewhere, although veered away from the paranormal soon after.
I spent the next few decades writing sporadically for enjoyment, while building a successful academic career. I never stopped making up stories in my head.
The moment I decided to embrace creative writing again was a wonderful turning point.
Every part of the writing process brings me joy. From conceiving ideas, to developing character arcs, plotting out stories, writing the first draft, editing and even proof reading.
I have set stories in places I have lived and visited, from Melbourne to Edinburgh, New Zealand’s North Island to the Orkney Islands, London to New York, and Irish farming communities to Singapore’s hawker markets.
The community of readers I’m building provides me with my inspiration and motivation.
